Caving in the Aude and Pyrenee Orientalis
Some time ago I visited a few caves in the Aude and Pyrenee area's. One of these caves lays near Carcassonne. It is a big sytem with a river in it. There are still explorations going on and they still find new passages. After a decent of 200 meters you come to the main stream of the river. Corridors are 5-10 meters wide and very high. After walking through the water for 30 minutes you see large formations hanging from the ceiling. The bottom of the riverbed looks like marble. After these formations you come to a nice gour.
After a few hours of taking pictures we went back and visited a parallel galerie near the entrance. This part also has nice places.
At 18.00 hours we came out of the cave. The next day we visited another part of the system wich was also very nice. The next day we went to the south of the Aude to visit a special place with rare formations. I had an appointment at 09.00 hours with our guide. After changing our clothes and passing some ladders we came to the nicer part of the cave. For me it was my 6-th visit. On every visit you see different things. This time I made a picture from poolfingers.
This trip also lasted until 18.00 hours before we went out. After some long days we took one day rest befor going to a cave in the Pyrenee Orientalis. This was a touristic cave the system is very large with many galeries. Our last trip was a visit to a saltcave in Spain. I had been there before and it is very special because of the colours.
